The University of Sydney acknowledges its outstanding students in a number of academic and extra curricular areas.
In sport, the highest award for a student is a University Blue. Blues are nominated in October at the conclusion of the annual university sporting calendar and the successful nominees are presented with their Blues at the Annual Blues Dinner held near the end of November.
Students are nominated to the Blues Committee by the committee of their sporting club.
The number of Blues varies - in recent years between 35-45 Blues have been awarded per year.
At the Blues ceremony, the Chancellor garbs each new Blue in their new Blues jacket and presents their Blues certificate. At the end of the evening the Vice-Chancellor announces Male and Female Blues of the Year.
Blues earn the right to wear the Blues jacket in the traditional stripes of Blue and Gold with the Sydney University Shield.
